Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

Category: Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

A laparoscopic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove the uterus through small incisions in the abdomen. A thin tube with a camera called a laparoscope, is inserted through one of the incisions so the surgeon can view the pelvic organs on a screen. Through additional small incisions, surgical instruments are used to carefully separate and remove the uterus. This technique is often preferred for conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis, or uterine cancer because it typically causes less pain, a shorter hospital stay, and a faster recovery than an open abdominal hysterectomy.
